The Epidemiology Data Center Turns 40 This Year!

In 2020, the Epidemiology Data Center (EDC) will receive well-deserved recognition for its 40 years of innovative contributions to understanding and preventing disease and advancing treatment.

In a research environment fostering exploration of complex health questions that are explored and answered using the combined tools of epidemiology, biology and statistics, the EDC has designed, coordinated, analyzed and reported data from numerous studies sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Defense, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, industry, and others. In doing so, the EDC collaborates with universities and medical centers worldwide and is an internationally renowned leader in the design, conduct, and analysis of multi-center clinical research projects across a broad spectrum of application areas.

The EDC was founded in 1980 by the late Katherine M. Detre, MD, DrPH and Sheryl F. Kelsey, PhD.  

EDC highlights will be showcased in the Epidemiology Seminar course (EPIDEM 2250) on Thursdays, 12:00-1:00 p.m., in Fall 2020.
