EDC PhD student Kristina Boyd was part of a team that won a 2023 NCEH/ATSDR award for excellence in domestic program delivery. The award was for her part in making the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Social Vulnerability Index information easy to navigate and understand for all users. The CDC’s Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) uses 16 U.S. census variables to help local officials identify communities that may need support before, during, or after disasters. Boyd co-led the creation and implementation of the SVI Utilization and Implementation Tool (SUIT), a database of scientific journal articles that feature the CDC’s SVI.
