EDC will serve as Data Coordinating Center for new study evaluating analgesia for cardiac surgery and scoliosis spine fusion surgery in children
The University of Pittsburgh Epidemiology Data Center will serve as the Data Coordinating Center for the “Prospective Randomized Evaluation of Analgesia for Cardiac Surgery and Idiopathic Scoliosis Spine Fusion Elective Surgery in Children” (PRECISE) trials recently funded by the NIH through the HEAL Initiative: KIDS Acute Pain Clinical Trials (APCT).
The PRECISE randomized controlled trials are designed to compare a standardized, multi-dose methadone-based protocol with standard-of-care short-acting opioid-based analgesia to reduce surgical pain, complications, and overall opioid use among children undergoing cardiac surgery and undergoing posterior spine fusion, respectively. Senthilkumar Sadhasivam, MD, University of Pittsburgh Professor of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine will serve as the Principal Investigator of the PRECISE U01 grant, and Maria Mori Brooks, PhD, Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, will direct the PRECISE Data Coordinating Center at the Epidemiology Data Center.
